VizX Labs, LLC
March 4, 2002 VizX Labs announces the addition of high-tech
company builders and life science executives to its board of directors
Seattle, WA - Tom Ranken, CEO and co-founder of VizX Labs, LLC
today announced the addition to its board of directors of three
senior executives who have founded highly profitable cutting-edge
high-tech companies, developed novel therapeutic approaches to
the treatment of serious diseases, and led M&A activity for
hospitals in crisis. They include Jeremy Jaech, founder of Poseidon
Ventures; Dr. Bruce Montgomery, CEO of Corus Pharma, Inc.; and
Ray Crerand, recently retired CEO of Providence Everett Medical
Center.
"Can you imagine the excitement this firm experienced when it
learned that these eminent men of vision had agreed to join our
CTO, Bob Cottingham, and myself on our board to create a whole
new product category?" said Ranken.
Jeremy Jaech is perhaps best known as co-founder of Aldus
and Visio Corporations. In 1984, Mr. Jaech and four others founded
Aldus Corporation. In 1985, Aldus introduced PageMaker® desktop
publishing software for the Macintosh, a program that allowed
users to mix type and graphics on the same page. PageMaker coupled
with the Apple LaserWriter laser printer launched an era of desktop
publishing. Mr. Jaech managed the development of all Aldus products
created through 1989.
In 1990, Mr. Jaech and two others founded Visio Corporation where
he served the corporation as president and CEO. The company introduced
software for information-technology professionals and engineers
that enabled users to diagram, visualize, document, and share
ideas including flowcharts, organization charts, and office layouts.
Microsoft acquired the Company in 2000 and Mr. Jaech became Vice
President-Visio Division for Microsoft Corporation. Jaech was
raised in Richland, WA, earned degrees in math and computer science
at the University of Washington, and after receiving his BA, he
was employed by Battelle's Pacific Northwest Laboratories and
then at Boeing performing computer-aided design R&D in anticipation
of the 777 program.
Bruce Montgomery, MD, brings a record of breakthrough
biotechnology development, novel business approaches and management
expertise to the board of VizX Labs. He is CEO of Corus Pharma,
Inc., a venture-funded Seattle drug development company that is
focused on the discovery of novel therapeutics for infectious
and respiratory diseases.
Prior to founding Corus, Dr. Montgomery was executive vice president
of R&D for Pathogenesis where in 1998 his leadership in the
development and regulatory approval of tobramycin for the treatment
of cystic fibrosis earned him an FDA Commissioners Special Citation.
Dr. Montgomery was one of three people responsible for raising
$160 million in IPO and secondary offerings for the company, and
was also a member of the team that negotiated the sale of the
company to Chiron for $700 million in September 2000.
Dr. Montgomery received the Patriotic Civilian Service Award
from the Secretary of the Army in 1997. His academic career included
Assistant Professorships at both UCSF and SUNY Stony Brook, where
he directed the ICU. Dr. Montgomery is a board-certified internist
and pulmonologist who received his MD and a BS in Chemistry from
the University of Washington.
Ray Crerand recently retired as the CEO of Providence
Everett Medical Center, the tenth largest hospital in Washington.
He has been a leading figure for over 20 years in hospital management
in the Northwest and nationally. He is a former chairman of the
Washington State Hospital Association and a board member of the
American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr. Crerand served
as the CEO of Everett's Providence Hospital from 1988 to 1993.
Providence merged with General Hospital Medical Center in March
1994. He played a crucial role in bringing the two formerly fierce
competitors together, and as CEO guided the hospital through tumultuous
labor troubles and an employee strike in 2000.
VizX Labs, LLC develops products which enable life scientists
to readily incorporate sophisticated data management and computational
analysis into their research efforts, resulting in improved quality
and productivity in experiment design and decision-making processes.
